Stein, Gertrude

(1874-1946)
   American author. Born in Allegheny, Pennsylvania, she was educated in Europe. In 1902 she settled in Paris with her brother, Leo. She wrote novels, sketches, plays and poems. She was a patron of artists including Picasso, Braque and Matisse. Her works include The Autobiography of Alice B. Toklas.
